Some will swear by one of these same names and will not shop anywhere else. I usually use midwest or northern brewer. At one time, the reason for Midwest was price and Northern Brewer was variety, but I feel like the gaps have gotten smaller. Now my reasons for shopping at these places has as much to do about location. I live withing 4 hours of these stores, so I usually get orders on a timely basis.

Plus, it's hard for me to justify ordering something to be shipped from California or Georgia or Texas or other distant location if I can get it shipped from much closer. Even if somehow the item is a little cheaper at the distant store, I think twice about it. But that's more about personal philosophy and less about being an optimal consumer. Here are some other big stores not mentioned yet that you may find suits your needs: Soneast Crusader May 9, Wisconsin. I've been using Midwest Supplies for the last year or so and certainly have no complaints there, though I've recently used RiteBrew.

Prices are good, variety isn't great. Their SpeeDee shipping option is very affordable. And, I appreciate that they're from WI. I would be surprised if you really do better shopping online over a LHBS, but it's possible.

My local shop doesn't do bulk hops, so I get bulk hops online every now and then. The rest of my stuff I always buy at my local homebrew shop. MoreBeer gets my vote. For example I can get 50 lbs of pale malt in 10 lb. That's pretty difficult to beat for those of us who haven't any easy access to an LHBS. At one time MoreBeer was a bit on the pokey side about getting the orders out the door, but they've become much better over the past year.

I have heard that BMW has really gone downhill recently. I haven't purchased from them but I have heard many bad stories. Anyone know of online home brew stores for Canada that they'd recommend? Here's another good one that doesn't seem to get mentioned much Fast shipping to the east coast!

Ejayz Initiate 0 May 15, Iowa. I use Northern Brewer and Midwest. Northern has the fastest shipping hands down I ordered 2 kits on Wednesday the 6th one from each place the NB kit was here Friday the 8th that's a great turnaround if you ask me! Midwest on the other hand I am still waiting for it on and its the 14th! I called Tuesday the 12th an they said they had no clue why it had not shipped so they refunded my shipping costs and said they would get going on it.

However they still did not ship it until last night if I am lucky I will get it tomorrow. I am now worried about my yeast because it will have been in the Fedex system 48 hours before it gets here. In the end I like both but Northern has a special agreement with UPS and they get your stuff to you a lot faster!

Beerbuddy3 Initiate 0 Mar 9, Northern Brewer bought Midwest this week. That will probably fix their shipping issues. Groulxsome Initiate 0 Apr 9, Ontario Canada.

Brewmaster Initiate 0 Sep 2, Minnesota. I just found these guys http: It says on their site they are expanding their products you just have to let them know I have one coming now, I will let you guys know how it tastes!

I use LHBS for all my grains, hops, and yeasts. When it comes to hardware, it seems online is the way to go. I picked up my mash tun and HLT from northern brewer on sale.

I vote for Northern Brew where I have ordered quite a few kits mostly extract. Though they will send 10 of grain or so for a AG.

I am moving into AG, have already done 2. Plus they have nice catalogs they mail out seasonally. My number 2 is Austin HB. Especially on their sales. I have a spreadsheet where I calculate cost per gravity points. AIH also was willing to repackage the kit by bagging individually all the grains. Not just ordering an AG with all the grains already mixed in. VikeMan Meyvn 1, Jul 12, Pennsylvania. You could simply call Northern HB. They can give you an idea. Then ask if the prices are good if a free shipping event is happening.

Not sure if you get their current catalog which is free. Get the master catalog too if you can. I found this out there- http: Well I'm officially off the Midwest bandwagon I used them because only they and Bell's claimed to have the required stock of brewer's liquorice I need for a 4 BBL brew weekend, next weekend.

I order stuff to the border because it's cheaper and only an hour away. When I get home, and open up everything I see a sheet that states they are backordered and the amount they actually shipped was different than the invoice claim and Customer Service would contact me with an expected ship date. Needless to say I had not been contacted in over a week, so I called them and was told they wouldn't be able to get me the extra stuff on time.

I cancelled the backorder, got a refund and used Bell's. Now for a second border run this week. Have been very impressed with Austin Homebrew lately.
